We want every
child (even newborns!) to hear or read the Bible everyday!
It feeds their spirit and gives them the edge for living in the
spirit and NOT living in the flesh. How can a child be
obedient, self-controlled, healthy, diligent, and emotionally
stable in the flesh? These are spiritual qualities or spiritual
fruit that come out of the heart of a man.
If you desire
spiritual fruit from your child: "...love, joy, peace, patience,
goodness, faith, meekness, temperance..." (Galatians 5) you'll
have to plant spiritual seed--the Word of God (Mark 4).
Oh, and please do
not expect your child to take the initiative. Even my short
experience at being a mom, a Children's Minister, and the founder
of this program in all its changing requirements over the last 13
years has shown me that this is not a reasonable
expectation. There's no getting around it, daily Bible reading
has to be a priority to the parent. Your child
will eventually grow in your training, and not depart from it, but
you will have to put in many years of building that habit first.
2006
The requirements for our
Daily Bible Reading Program are
as follows:
- for children
6th grade and younger
- one chapter of
the Bible or story Bible a day
- for at least
five days a week
- for the entire
year
- will get a
trophy at the end of the year!
No paperwork, forms,
or assigned reading are required. It is all done by the honor
system.
Devotionals, Christian stories/videos do not count. It is strongly recommended that children read through the Bible so that they can get an overview of its message and meaning. |
